Make a cute embroidery heart card for your beloved one. The heart just consists of red thread and has a vector look & feel. It felt like fun to stitch a card for a change 😀 It reminded me that you can use all kind of materials to make an original greeting card. It doesn’t need to be paper always.
I made this card for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. If you’re interested, you can find a variation of this card which takes less time over here: Embroidery heart card I. I wanted to craft something which is graphically strong, but still has that handmade feeling. So this is the result! Voilà!
Craft supplies
- Craft knife (optional)
- Self-healing cutting mat
- Piercing tool / drafting compass (optional)
- Scissors
- Graphic ruler
- Glue
- 2 paperclips
- Needle
- Red thread
- Clear tape / small piece of label
- Printer
- 1 piece of white paper
- 1 piece of red paper

Instructions

Step 1: Print the heart shape on a piece of white paper. Make sure it fits on the greeting card.
Step 2: Cut out a square around the heart shape. Attach the heart shape to the front side of the card by using 2 paperclips.
Step 3: Unfold the greeting card. Make holes with the piercing tool on the red marked spots of the heart shape. I used a drafting compass, because I don’t have any other piercing tool. You could also use a big needle if you don’t have both tools, but it will take some more time.
Step 4: Take a needle and pull the red thread through it. Sew diagonally, line by line. Start from the inside of the card. Look at the numbers in the image to follow the pattern.
Step 5: You could do the sewing process in small steps. Just cut the thread after sewing one or a few rows and put sticky tape / blank sticker on both thread ends.
Step 6: Glue the inside of the card where the thread ends are located. Put a piece of red paper on it.
Step 7: Cut off the remaining red paper and your card is finished!
